This mentorship program will help freshmen further adapt to college life and learn how to succeed at school as well as in life from their mentors. Mentors are expected to provide guidance and encouragement to their freshman mentees.
- Mentees will be freshmen.
- Mentors will be sophomores and juniors.
- Seniors and graduate students are not eligible.
- Mentors must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be a Marshall or Leventhal Major.
- The mandatory time commitment to the program for participants is minimal - there are only 5 events throughout the semester.
- Because the mentee is the primary beneficiary of this program they will be encouraged to take the initiative to schedule the meeting times.
- Mentors will be encouraged to share learning styles, goals, bios, resumes & more.
- Capping it at 15 mentors and 15 mentees will be great.
- These 30 total participants will make our event coordination and the management of this new program much easier and more effective.
- There will be an application for both mentor and mentees.
- We will have the application process sent through the weekly HOH e-mail so as not to waste time on an event in the beginning of the semester when MBSG is very busy.
- The application will include questions that will help us identify how to match up the mentors with the mentees in addition to standard questions.
- After the initial application, we will interview mentors and mentees.
- We will determine the mentor: mentee ratio once we've evaluated the qualified candidates.
- In December, mentors and mentees will both evaluate the program and their mentee/ mentor and give feedback to us so we know how to better improve it in the future.
